LaTonya N. Davis (Minister LT) is a native of Greenville County, SC and has served diligently in ministry since her childhood. When she was promoted by God in her call to advocate the Gospel of Jesus Christ, LaTonya was serving as a Health Coach within a Fortune 500 company. Minister LT possesses an innate ability to inspire others from all walks of life; she remains committed to ministry, her Christian walk, and her education. With a thirst to better understand the Word and will of God, in August 2012, she enrolled in the Masters of Divinity program with a concentration in Religion, Health and Science from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Minister LT successfully completed all program requirements in July 2015. In combination with this Masters she obtained two certificates in: Faith and Health; and Religious Education Ministries with a Religion and Academy focus.
Prior to Emory University, in 2004 LaTonya obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child & Family Studies with a concentration in Dietetics and Nutrition, and two minors in Business & Administration and Women & Gender Studies all from Berea College in Berea, KY. Ms. Davis is currently serving as a Chaplain Intern in the Clinical Pastoral Education (Level II CPE) program with Spiritual Health at Emory Healthcare, a highly regarded comprehensive and diverse education center for pastoral care and chaplaincy training in Atlanta, GA.
Minister LT‘s interests lie in examining how to tailor faith based health interventions to the underserved and underprivileged and in unifying the Gospel and social ministry. She has based her vocational identity and ministry on the Sankofa and Harambee principles (“return to the source and fetch it”, “look back and walk forward”, “the wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future”, and “Let’s pull together.”)
As a self-identified LGBTQ ‘womnyst’, she humbly likens her call to the greatness of the famed heroine pioneer, Harriet Tubman, who became known as “Moses.” This compels her to willingly serve as a symbol for conflict transformation and resolution and to bring together reconciliation among the LGBTQ affirming and inclusive faith communities and non-affirming and inclusive LGBTQ faith communities.
Her various life experiences and authenticity for inclusion are just a few reasons she has much to offer. God is using her life experiences and teachings to fortify the development of persons in wider society. As a result she founded and serves as Executive Visionary for The Open Nest, Inc., a non-profit ministry focusing primarily on the mental health of ALL womyn of color to address matters of liberation and human existence thus adapting and experiencing transformation spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
Whatever capacity LaTonya serves, her focus is ALWAYS on the glory of God! She can be heard quoting Ephesians 3:20, With God’s power working within us much more than anything we can ask or imagine can be done, along with the paralleling words of Oprah Winfrey, Turn your wounds into wisdom…What God intended for you goes far beyond anything you can imagine.
